Treat Rain like a Natural Resource

Storm Water is a natural resource. It infiltrates in land where it falls. This prevents waterborne pollution.
We can protect Storm Water with Green Infrastructure placed in the smallest possible sub-watershed catchment area.
On the other hand, Storm Runoff becomes a waste when it travels over the land grabbing oil and pollutants before it goes into the nearest waterbody.
Storm Runoff needs to be treated before it enters soil and/or water with as many Green Infrastructure practices in the smallest watershed area.
Definitions:
Natural Resources are materials or substances such as minerals, forests, water, and fertile land that occur in nature and can be used for economic gain. They can be sustainable or renewable, or not. Natural resources are resources that exist without any actions of humankind. A natural resource is a naturally occurring source of wealth, as land or water. natural resources, the natural wealth of a country, consisting of land, forests, mineral deposits, water, etc.
Natural Resource: rain, snow, ice
Storm Water: is the rain, snow, or ice from a storm that forms naturally. It soaks into the land where it falls. Here it travels through the soil to the “base flow” entering the bottom level of the water body, as clean water.
Storm Runoff: is the rain, snow, or ice from a storm that cannot soak into the land where it falls. Instead, it runs off taking pollutants along the way into the nearest water body, as polluted water.
